It doesn’t matter if you’re going to the pub and having two pints instead of four. It doesn’t matter if they’re alcohol-free or the latest Belgian Blonde. The point is, you’re there. And so is your community. Whether that’s your best mate who’s giving Dry January a shot or you’re joining your local Talk Club, get out, and get talking. These are your people.

YOUR LANDLORD HAS TIME FOR YOU
It was far too busy at the bar in December to pull up a barstool, let alone have a chat. Now is a great time to ask what the staff what the freshest cask on is, what new beers are incoming, and what breweries the pub will (or won’t!) be stocking, and why. They might be thinking of switching from a big brand to a local indie but are wary of what the regulars will think, especially when it comes to a nitro stout like Black Gates. Tell them what you’ll support. With your wallet, not just your words!

HOSPITALITY NEEDS YOU
Rising operational costs, business rates, and a financial hangover from Covid has been the end of many seemingly successful venues in recent years. Sorry to be the bearers of bad news, but unfortunately 2026 doesn’t look much more promising, with UK Hospitality warning of an estimated 2,000 closures this year. That buzzing local that you really enjoyed for your Christmas meal last month might not be making ends meet right now. And yes, we need an industry-wide solution from the Government. But in the meantime, if you can, go and put a bum on a seat.
