AS WE HEAD INTO OUR 20TH YEAR, WE’VE BEEN REFLECTING AND MAPPING OUT OUR FUTURE.
This impact report for 2022/23 is our opening statement and our marker in the sand. It brings you the entire view of BBF, a space which represents everything this brewery strives for. It’s a chance for us to showcase the areas where we’re strong and to be transparent on the areas where we know we need to improve. Because even though we've come a long way, we’ve still got work to do. That's why we’ll put impact at the heart of every future decision we make.

2022/23 Highlights
DRINK WITH PURPOSE
WHEN IT COMES TO GIVING BACK TO OUR COMMUNITY, WE’RE LEADING THE CHARGE.
However, when it comes to giving back to our planet, we’re only at the start of our journey. Brewing beer is a centuries-old tradition and typically it’s not been all that sustainable. So as the impacts of climate breakdown accelerate, and the role of business in driving change becomes more apparent, we know we need to do more.
WORKING TO CAN OUR CARBON
DATA IS EVERYTHING
In 2022 we partnered with Zevero, a brewery specialist software that helps us measure, monitor and reduce our carbon footprint. With the data we will be able to make informed decisions on key equipment purchases and future brewing strategies.
Our biggest emissions come from ingredients used in the brewing process - 52.8%. Our centrifuge increases the yield for our keg and can brews by 10-15%. This means we get more beer from each brew, increasing the efficiency of these carbon heavy ingredients. Because we brew our own beer we have relationships with the suppliers and farmers. Working together allows us to build solutions that reduce our impact.
CHANGE IS BREWING
MAKING BEER FOR GOOD
In 2024, we’ll be renewing our brewery facilities to allow us to brew more pints for the people, improve our carbon footprint, and increase local jobs.
2023 saw the launch of BREWED TO GIVE, our charity initiative and self-imposed 2% tax, to give back to the community. In 2022-23 that total, which reached and uplifted 150 charities and good causes, was £80k. In 2024, it’ll be even bigger.
Meanwhile, we’ve donated over £53k to date through beer sales directly to Talk Club. Our ongoing partnership is saving lives a mouthful at a time. That’s what we mean when we say DRINK WITH PURPOSE.
