We love beer and for good beer you inevitably need a good pub. The Barley Mow has been back under our wing since 2016 and after many ‘second best’ we’ve finally got what we deserve, the Oscars of the beer world, the crème de la crème, the Bristol and District CAMRA Pub of the Year.
Last week CAMRA paid us a visit to drop off the esteemed award and shake the hand of number one publican, Harry Acfield. Although this title isn’t officially attached to the CAMRA award it’s one we think he deserves. Harry took over the reins and hard work that had been set out by predecessor Tim Duval and taken the Mow into a new chapter. His cheery disposition mirrors the relaxed and friendly atmosphere the Mow radiates. And not forgetting the stellar team he has behind him, Kiki, Ben, Rhydian, Joe, Kathal, Otis, Dan, Freddie, John, Rhys, Gordon and of course Big D.
The Mow takes beer seriously and as a BBF pub pays homage to some of our finest brews. There’s always plenty of BBF beer for choose from, but don’t worry, it’s not constantly a BBF tap take over. With 8 hand pulls and 10 keg lines the beer hails from all over the country and pays particular homage to the Bristol brewery scene.
Only a stone’s throw away from East Bristol’s brewing quarter the line-up always represents neighbouring breweries and others around Bristol and the South West, and often you’ll see the brewers behind the beer coming in for a pint. The Barley Mow really stands as the flagship pub for great Bristol brewing.
We’d like to say cheers on behalf of BBF and the wonderful team at the Mow, to all the loyal customers who have stuck with us after always being second best, and to all the new customers we hope to see come through the doors. Now we can finally say we are The Bristol and District CAMRA Branch Pub of The Year. What a time to be alive.
