NOTHING TASTES LIKE THAT CLASSIC PAIRING – MUSIC AND BEER.
THE TWO BRING PEOPLE TOGETHER.
Beer and music have always gone hand in hand. Whether you’re sat at home listening to your favourite record with feet up supping on a cold one from the fridge, stood in a field ankle deep in mud, a can of lukewarm beer in hand or at your local pub listening to great live music with a perfectly poured pint, music and beer are an undeniably perfect combination.
Bristol Beer Factory Vinyl Series brings you three beers for three speeds, born out of a pure love for Bristol and the sounds this city produces. The three speeds allow us to create three very different beers - 3.3%, 4.5% and 7.8%. The series honours the city’s musical heritage, the underground DJ culture and dub plate pressings. We have brought together some of Bristol’s finest to help get the tables turning and create some beer that sings with songs of the city.
Starting the series and taking it at the slowest speed, we’ve turned 33 into a 3.3% Belgian table beer. Aptly named for a first release, White Label will be brewed by Bristol Beer Factory alone and follows suit with our 2018 kegs using Belgian yeast. Combined with big American hops - Eureka, Citra and Equanot - the beer will have the amazing characteristics and body of a Belgian beer, a great aroma making this a pale, smashable small beer.
For the second instalment we needed a bit of help… so we teamed up with Bristol legend and vinyl DJ extraordinaire Boca 45, AKA Scott Hendy to make his signature brew. Scott came down to Bristol Beer Factory HQ and got his hands dirty helping senior brewer Tristan, even cleaning out the mash! Together we’ve brewed Boca 45, a 4.5% amber ale to celebrate the release of his latest album Forty-Five.
“I’m a proud Bristolian born and bred. My favourite things in life are my family, music, football and brown beer. When BBF approached me to make a signature beer with them it was like a life achievement tick! I can’t wait for us to come up with something tasty to coincide with the 1st single from my forthcoming LP – Forty-Five!”
We took Boca’s favourite style (like him we all also rather love a good old brown beer) mixed it up a bit by adding a hint on honeycomb and using NZ, German and US hops; picked to honour the artists who have collaborated on the album.
What makes these two beers taste all the sweeter is our joint party at local drinking institution The Gallimaufry on Saturday 9th February where we will be celebrating the beer and the music and giving away 20 limited edition BBF Gold BOCA 45 vinyl singles.
For the third and final beer in our vinyl series with have paired up with maverick mixers Banoffee Pies Records – a Bristol-based label and music platform. This 7.8% pale ale, Banoffee Pie, is inspired by the label’s namesake flavours and brewed by the BPR guys themselves. It’s a Hefeweizen, bringing the banana but not being overwhelming, vanilla giving sweetness and lactose making this a smooth pour all on a buttery biscuit base.
Ell Weston, one half of the Banoffee boys, says “It’s been a real pleasure working to create this concept, and of course there is a great sense of community in Bristol and this collaboration just shows how many people in the city are to work together on new ideas. Enjoy this banoffee blend.”
To round off an amazing and exciting series we will be going to one of our favourite Bristol drinking venues and a place whose notoriety is entrenched in the local music scene. Come find us and the guys from Banoffee Pies at the Christmas Steps on Saturday 2nd March to see this series out with a bang.
